GCSE option BTEC first in Information and Creative Technology

About the course

The BTEC Level 2 First Award offers an exciting programme for those students who wish to learn the power of new technology and modern business skills that would attract potential employers. This course provides learners with the grounding to progress onto AS courses in either Computing or Information Technology.


What will I do on the course?

You will study a total of 4 units, broken down into the following focus topics:

  • The Online World (Experience technologies behind the www and Internet) – examined
  • Digital Portfolio (Showcasing your work via an internet browser) – coursework
  • Creating Digital Graphics (Creative graphical design for use on the web or apps) – coursework
  • 
Mobile Apps Development (Design, develop, test and review a mobile application) – coursework

Throughout this course you will have the opportunity to develop and build on a range of skills, which are deemed to be the necessary requirements in today’s modern business world. You will learn a range of skills where you will explore the common hardware components of technology systems, such as a touch screen or a printer, and the internal building blocks of a computer like the processor, buses and memory. You will also be exploring different types of software, operating systems and application software. You will investigate the characteristics and uses of mobile apps, and learn how mobile apps are developed. Then you will design, develop, test and review your own mobile app.


Assessment

You will complete an onscreen test (25% overall) and you will also be required to produce a portfolio of assignments. (75% of qualification). Each time you complete an assignment; you will receive points and grades as well as written feedback from your tutor. When you have successfully completed your internal assessments, you will be awarded a final grade of Pass, Merit or Distinction.


What can I do after the course?

This course will help you to develop the skills to progress on to a range of Advanced Level qualification, including AS courses such as Computing or ICT.
