Whilst the majority of parents/carers have been supportive of our measures to increase safety and security on the academy site, I am saddened to report that this week both a member of staff and a parent have been sworn at by parents collecting or dropping their children to the academy. This is wholly unacceptable behaviour.
We are an academy, we are here to provide education to your children in a safe environment. We are not here to face verbal abuse or intimidating behaviour. Any parent or member of the public who chooses to act in this manner will be banned from The Leigh Academy site and reported to the police.
I would like to thank the majority of our parents for their patience and understanding as we try to ensure safety for all. There is no doubt that we do not have enough space for all parents to park on site at the end of the day. The car park is particularly busy on Wednesday with the earlier finish and Friday afternoons when GOALS often hosts sporting events in the afternoon.
Please do consider the ‘park and stride’ initiative recently launched and whether you can meet your child off site at the end of the day, particularly on these two busy afternoons.
I am also pleased to be able to inform you of an alternative. Dartford Football Club (next door) has kindly agreed to a trial period of allowing access to their car park free of charge for ‘drop off’ and ‘collection’ for students. This is a walk of less than 5 minutes through the DFC side gate and into The Leigh Academy service access road gate on Princes Road. Please see plan attached.
I hope that parents/carers will avail themselves of this free, unlimited car parking space for dropping off/picking up in a courteous manner, adhering to DFC parking guidelines. If this is not the case then DFC will withdraw this opportunity. This will commence on Monday 28th September 2020.
Thank you for your continued support and understanding.
