Year 10 Key Information

30th September 2020

Dear Parent/Carer,

Re: Year 10 Key Information 2020 – 21

We were really pleased to see our Year 10 students returning to the academy after a very long period of home learning and the summer holidays.  Their teachers are really happy to be working with them in the classroom as we did miss teaching them.  It is a really exciting time for Year 10 as they continue on their GCSE journey.  Hopefully they are enjoying working with their peers and with their chosen subjects.  It is always an adjustment, moving up a year group, especially as we have higher expectations in terms of their maturity in Year 10.

It is vital for students to realise that work covered in Year 10 is just as important as that undertaken in Year 11.  Consistency of effort and a positive attitude are therefore required right from the start.  Each student has access to a Google Classroom for their tutor group and each of their subjects.  Each student should have homework every night although some of this may be set over several allocated sessions.  As part of the academy’s Digital Strategy, we are working to provide each Year 10 student with their own Chromebook later this year.

At this time of the academic year, the academy would be hosting a Year 10 Preparing for Success Evening, but this cannot take place.  It is unfortunate, but it is not possible for us to host this event under the current restrictions.

I have attached the presentation that we would have presented to parents on that evening.

This includes information on:

  • how to support your child
  • key dates
  • revision
  • pastoral support
  • interventions

Please take the time to read through the presentation, and contact us if you have any queries.
