Followers of Strictly Come Dancing may know the name of the singer HRVY, who is dancing with his partner Janette Manrara. You may not have realised, however, that HRVY, previously known as Harvey Cantwell, was a student at The Leigh Academy. He joined The Leigh Academy in 2010 and was a lovely, hard-working student with a great set of friends, who knew how to impress his teachers. Always the charmer, he enjoyed his lessons and excelled at Design Technology and English. Harvey found fame by singing while his friend played the guitar in his kitchen. A post on social media generated a huge following and set him on the road to stardom, but he took it all in his stride.
Never one to court attention, Harvey preferred to remain a regular schoolboy rather than a pop star while at the academy. His Head of College, Mr Lindars, said: “I asked him several times if he wanted to sing in assembly or at one of the award evenings but, ever humble, he always declined politely, preferring to focus on his studies rather than entertain his peers. Harvey took school in his stride and was one of the kindest, nicest students who would always ask how you were doing. He left with a good set of results and deserved the special future he has created for himself.”
The Leigh Academy family are very proud of his achievements. Strictly Come Dancing judge Craig declared HRVY’s dance to be ‘absolutely spectacular”, while Motsi said it was the “best first dance ever”. HRVY received scores of 9 in both his first and second weeks!
Harvey’s work ethic and determination to succeed have always been exemplary. We wish him every success and look forward to seeing him perform on Strictly Come Dancing in the weeks ahead. Go HRVY!!!
