End of Week Update

Dear Parents/Carers,

Many of you will have heard the Prime Minister’s statement on Wednesday 27th January regarding the reopening of schools. He stated that schools will not be reopening after the half term break.  Instead he said that he hopes that schools will be able to return from Monday 8th March.  It may be that this will be a full reopening, or it may be with staggered return prioritising certain year groups, or maybe year groups on rota.  We have been told that we will have more clarity on 22nd February and once that is known, I will write to you again with our plans.

What we do know in the meantime is that remote learning will continue for the next two weeks before half term, and the two weeks following half term for all year groups.  I have been really pleased with student engagement through the last month from the majority of our students and I want to thank you all as parents/carers for your support with this as I know how challenging it can be to juggle everything at home to support your children with their learning.  We continue to track student’s engagement with the Digital Engagement Scores and staff will continue to praise and reward students for their hard work and consistent efforts.  There are a small minority of students who are not engaging consistently well and we are trying to communicate with these students and parents regarding this and any support needed.  A lack of access to devices should not be an issue as we have devices in the academy that can be given/loaned to students.  If you have any issues with devices or access to remote learning please contact Jade Smith via the following email jade.smith@leighacademy.org.uk .

I would also like to thank everyone who has written to the academy, via email, social media, and comments in the parent survey to show your appreciation to the staff, who are working extremely hard, juggling their family and work commitments to ensure that all students continue to have a high-quality learning experience.

If you have not yet completed the parent survey then please do by clicking on the following link Parent Survey.  This survey does not collect names – so if you have specific queries related to your child please contact your child’s teacher, tutor or year group leadership team.  We will write again with some updates and answer general queries following the conclusion of the survey next week.

Thank you for your support, take care and stay safe.

Yours faithfully,

Julia Collins
