Transition Back to The Leigh Academy

Dear Parents/Carers,

I am pleased to be able to share with you that the return to the academy this week has gone smoothly. The phased return has supported all in our transition back on-site.  It is fabulous to have all of our students back on-site with us. Students are pleased to be able to see their friends and teachers and are very quickly getting back into routine. Staff are extremely happy to be back with their students in the classrooms teaching face to face.

The initial hurdles posed by COVID-19 on-site testing have been overcome and we have a team of dedicated testing staff who along with students’ sensible approach have insured this has been running efficiently all week.  At the point of writing we have carried out over 3,000 COVID-19 lateral flow tests and I am pleased to report no positive results as yet.

We continue now with the 2nd and 3rd on-site tests for students over the week ahead as well as launching the home testing. This will begin with the older year groups and further letters will come out to Year 11, 12 and 13 tomorrow, followed by letters to the other year groups next week.

In addition, a further update on awarding grades this summer and the assessment timeline for Years 11 to 13 is on its way to you at the start of next week

I am looking forward to the next few weeks until the Easter break, with all our young people reconnecting with each other, re-establishing routines and ensuring all are fully engaged with their learning. It is lovely to have a full academy community with an excited buzz of learning everywhere.

Thank you for your ongoing support

Yours faithfully,
