We have very nearly reached the end of Year 11 on what has been a quite extraordinary journey for you and your child over the last 18 months. Our admiration for the way our students have coped with lockdown, the return to the academy and the assessments they are about to finish completing is beyond measure. A huge thank you to you as parents and carers for helping us get through this difficult period together and hopefully the skills and resilience they have all developed through the pandemic so far, will stand the students in good stead for the challenges ahead in both education and life in general. There are a few details regarding the end of Year 11 I would like to clarify so you know when your child should attend the academy, and the events we have planned.
Monday 17th May – Friday 28th May
During this period, students only need to attend for their assessments – either scheduled as per the original plan, or to complete an assessment they have missed in the previous two weeks. If the latter happens to be the case, we will contact you to confirm the exact date and time the assessment will take place with at least three days’ notice. Full academy uniform continues to be expected at all times when students are in the building.
All Year 11 students will be in on Monday 17th May at 9.00am for their English Literature assessment. If your child doesn’t have a computer, science or ethics assessment in the afternoon, they can leave the academy at 11.15am when the English assessment is finished.
All students are expected to return their Chromebook on the day of their last assessment. This will be at some point between Monday 17th and Tuesday 25th of May. A separate letter from Mr Mills with the exact date and information on for the Chromebook return will be with you shortly.
As part of our drive to ensure every student has as many opportunities as possible, we have arranged a week for the students to focus on their digital skills. During the week beginning Monday 7th June (first week of Module 6) they will have the option to do one of two courses, Google Level 1 or Google Applied Digital Skills.
Google Level 1
Google Level 1 is a Google qualification that allows students to demonstrate their mastery of Google tools and services. In this course, they will study both in the academy and at home on how different Google tools can be used within an educational context. They will then be tested in a three-hour examination which consists of a range of questions and a practical skills assessment. If they are successful within the examination they would then be awarded the qualification that is valid for two years and can be added to their CV. The course will take place between Monday 7th – Thursday 10th June and the examination will take place on Friday 11th June.
Google Applied Digital Skills
Within the Applied Digital Skills students will explore how Google products can be used in a wide range of real-world applications. These include budgeting using Google Sheets, writing a CV in Google Docs and how to work online collaboratively. This course does not include any examinations. Students will receive a certificate at the end detailing what they have achieved. The day your child will need to attend is detailed in the table below.
Monday 7th June
Tuesday 8th June
Wednesday 9th June
Thursday 10th June
Friday 11th June
All students who have opted for Google Level 1 to do the examination
So, we can prepare the courses, I would ask that your child make their choice via the Google Form located here https://forms.gle/PuPJqvEtJh4qVf399 or by scanning this QR Code by Monday 24th May 2021. Your child will be required to log in with their academy email address and Google password to make their choice.
If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact Mr Mills at email@example.com
Post-16 Induction Week
Following on from Google Week, we will have a Post-16 subject induction week from Monday 14th – Friday 18th June. Those students hoping to return to Post-16 at The Leigh are expected to attend these sessions, but they are also open to students who wish to learn more about Post-16 and the subjects they may consider following. A timetable for the week along with additional details about Post-16 will be shared with you before the end of this Module.
Year 11 Leavers Assembly
We are very pleased to say that we will be able to invite all Year 11 students to a Leavers assembly at 11.30am on Thursday 24th June. We have chosen this date as hopefully further restrictions will be lifted on Monday 21st June as per the government’s roadmap out of lockdown, allowing a large group of students to congregate together for a 30-minute assembly in our Lecture Theatre. Students are invited to arrive from 10.30am and make their way to the Year 11 area for shirt signing and other activities before the assembly starts.
If you have any questions regarding any of the events and details in this letter then please don’t hesitate to contact me on firstname.lastname@example.org
