I hope that you and your families have been able to enjoy a safe break this holiday and benefitted from the lovely weather we have had.
As our community returns to the academy on Monday 7th June, I ask for your help in ensuring our safe return.
Home Covid-19 Lateral Flow Testing
Please make sure that your child(ren) carries out a home test on Sunday 6th June. If anyone in the household has a positive test result, then everyone must stay at home and book a PCR test to confirm the result. Please then contact the academy on Monday to let us know.
I wrote to you all a few weeks ago with the decision to keep the wearing of face coverings/masks for students and staff while moving around the building and when in indoor communal areas. This was well received by parents, students and staff alike. All of our community have consistently followed this expectation, understanding that it can help keep us all safe.
As we return to Module 6, we will keep this measure in place. It will be reviewed with the government’s decision regarding the next stage on 21st June.
Specialist Teaching Areas
Throughout this academic year, each year group has remained in their year group ‘bubbles’ and zones. This has worked well for students; and staff have moved around the building for lessons as needed. A disadvantage of this has been that students (particularly in the lower year groups) have not been able to experience the full facilities of The Leigh Academy. Over the coming weeks practical lessons will begin to be re-roomed into specialist areas. So, students will be able to have drama in the studio, science in the labs and design and technology in the workshops. Whilst students will move to different areas of the building they will remain in their class ‘bubble’. We will be making these changes gradually and with a measured approach, I know the students (and staff) will really benefit from being in their specialist spaces, using specialist equipment again. All details of any room changes will be given to students in the first week back ready for week 2. Students will remain with their year groups at break and lunchtime.
Module 6 is always a busy time of year, and this year is no exception. All parents (Year 7, 8, 9, 10, and 12) will receive their child’s school reports over the weeks ahead, and parents of Year 7 and Year 8 will be invited to virtual Parent Evenings to discuss their child’s progress. We will also have our usual sports days and hope to be able to have a “Celebration Week” in July with some off-timetable activities. Further details on these will be provided nearer the time.
This year has been a balance between ensuring Covid secure measures and still providing the best educational opportunities possible. I thank you for your ongoing support with the Covid secure measures, as we make gradual changes to further develop your child’s educational experiences with us.
