Sports Days 2021

Class of Leigh Academy students participating in a PE class and holding shot put balls in their hands.

Dear Parents/Carers,

The PE Learning Area is once again preparing for the annual Leigh Academy Sports Days, which will take place on Monday 14th June & Tuesday 15th June 2021. This year students will compete in their Year Groups and Colleges and the events will take place on the sports field at The Leigh Academy. Your daughter/son’s Sports Day is as follows:

Year 7 – Monday 14th June – (9.00am-11.55am)

Year 8 – Monday 14th June – (12.20pm-3.15pm)

Year 9 – Tuesday 15th June – (9.00am-11.55am)

Year 10 – Tuesday 15th June – (12.20pm-3.15pm)

All students need to attend their normal lessons until the time their Sports Day starts. Their teacher will then escort them down to the fields. On the day of their Sports Day, students will be allowed to attend the academy in their College PE Kit and academy tracksuit. Students will not be permitted to wear any other kit or tracksuit during Sports Day.

The timings of the Sports Day allow all students in Year 7 and 9 to have their lunch in the academy as normal. For Year groups 8 and 10, students must bring a packed lunch to eat during their session. If students are eligible for free school meals, this will still be provided on the sports field by a member of PE staff. Students must bring water and/or refreshments for the duration of their events as there will be no opportunity for students to visit the restaurant through the duration of their session.

Unfortunately, due to the Covid pandemic, we have made the decision that parents will not be allowed to watch this year’s sports day event.

Students who finish 1st and 2nd in their field events and the first two fastest times in each track event will then have the opportunity to represent their College at College Sports Day on the following dates:

Year 7 – Monday 5th July – (12.30pm–2.00pm)

Year 8 – Tuesday 6th July – (12.30pm–2.00pm)

Year 9 – Thursday 8th July – (8.30am–10.00am)

Year 10 – Thursday 8th July – (12.30pm–2.00pm)

One of our main priorities of these sports days are for students to try their best in their selected events and most importantly have fun. In order for this to be achieved, we expect students to behave in an appropriate manner which includes supporting other athletes and remaining respectful to staff.

Finally, students need to be prepared for a variety of weather conditions on the day and need to have appropriate wet weather clothing and/or suncream with them. Sports Day will only be cancelled if conditions are extremely poor as there is no time left to reschedule during this Module. Please do not hesitate to contact us on 01322 620435 or email: if you have any questions regarding these events.

Yours faithfully,

Andrew Pickett
