Year 10 On-Site COVID Lateral Flow Testing

Dear Parents/Carers,

Following on from the Principal’s letter regarding the start of the new academic year, I wanted to write with year group specific details for COVID Lateral Testing.

I have been working with Year 10 this academic year and have really enjoyed getting to know students so well. Whilst we are returning to the college structure next year, with the first point of contact being your child’s tutor or college admin, I will be keeping a responsibility for overall communication and lead on the tutor time programme, year group specific events and fortnightly year group assemblies. This will ensure continuity of communication and I will be able to ensure a smooth transition to our college structure as I work with each college Student Services Manager.

Year 10 students will come in for their first COVID Lateral Flow (LFT) on site at The Leigh Academy on Friday 3rd September.  Students should arrive within their allocated time.  Parents/carers who have not previously provided consent, please use this link to do so: click here

Students will need to be in full Academy uniform and will go to lessons after confirmation of a negative test result..  Parents/carers will only be notified if their child has a positive result.  If the LFT test is positive then you will be informed and you would then need to book a confirmatory PCR test, and self-isolate whilst awaiting the results. If your child is negative then they will return to the academy the next day for a full day’s timetable – see below.

Year 10’s first day of the new academic year will be on Friday 3rd September. On this day there will be a staggered start for year 10 due to testing, start times are outlined in the table above broken down by college. After their test students will attend a tutor time session to organise their timetable and run through Academy standards and expectations.  They will then follow their timetable for the remainder of the day.

From Monday 6th September tutor time begins at 8.30am, so I expect to see all Year 10 students gathered on the Basketball court at 8:20am at the latest, ready for line ups and to go in for tutor time.  Students will have an extended tutor time on their first day, when they will receive a copy of their timetable and go through any changes for the year ahead as well as reminders on our standards and expectations.  Students will then follow their timetabled lessons throughout the week as normal.

Students’ second LFT will take place on Wednesday 8th September. Students will take this test within the academy day, so should arrive at 8:20am latest as usual ready for line ups.

I very much look forward to working in partnership with Year 10 students and parents/carers. I wish you all a safe summer holiday.

Yours faithfully,

Mr Matt Piggott

Assistant Head of College, oversight of Year 10
