COVID-19 Update – 5th October 2021

A group of Leigh Academy students are photographed sitting together at their desks, looking at their laptops and smiling.

Dear Parents/Carers,

I write with the weekly update on our COVID-19 update measures. I am pleased to report that the number of new COVID-19 cases at The Leigh Academy is slowing, however, we are still getting a number of confirmed COVID-19 cases every day, amongst students from a range of year groups. We have also had one additional staff member with a positive PCR result. As such we will be continuing with our period of enhanced measures for the remainder of this week.

As we progress through the week, I will review cases, liaise with Public Health England local protection team and it is likely that we will begin to adapt and reduce measures from Monday 11th October. I will write to you again towards the end of this week with the plan for next week and the remainder of this module.

I do need your ongoing help to provide your child with a face covering/mask to wear in the academy each day. We are struggling to be able to provide these for the number of students who forget to bring theirs, particularly on days when they are wearing their PE kit.

In addition, a reminder to continue to carry out twice weekly LFT testing on Wednesdays and Sundays at home and let us know of any positive results. We are distributing more home test kits to students in each year group this week.

Thank you for your ongoing support which is so important in implementing these measures to keep our Leigh community as safe as possible.

Yours faithfully,

Julia Collins
Principal
