Dear Parent/Carer
RE: End of Module
It has been a very busy and successful last week of the module. We have been celebrating Diwali and Black History Month, Year 8 has had presentations from Diversity Role Models, Year 11 has had a whole day with ‘Learning Performance’ focusing on mindset, revision strategies and exam preparation. Students across a range of year groups have benefited from NHS Trailblazer ‘stress busting’ workshops as well as a very busy, successful and productive staff/parent meetings on Wednesday. Year 7 tutors really valued meeting with parents of their tutees to discuss how year 7’s have settled into ‘Life at The Leigh’. Whilst Year 11 and Year 13 teachers have met with parents to discuss student progress in preparation for their mock examinations after the break. We have also been able to launch the Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Scheme to Year 9 this week as well as roll out Chromebooks to Year 12. Despite our period of ‘enhanced Covid’ measures we are still working hard to ensure students receive not only the best education opportunities but the extra experiences that we are proud to offer to our Leigh students. The boys Year 7 football team have also played their second competitive match this week with a 10-0 victory. Congratulations! Some art and photography students have also been on a day trip recently, the first trip we have been able to facilitate since March 2020 and we hope to be able to re-introduce more sporting fixtures and re-introduce educational visits for all students throughout the year ahead.
I am sure that like Leigh staff; students and parents are looking forward to a well deserved rest over the two-week break. We have been asked by the Department for Education to remind families to continue to carry out twice weekly LFT testing at home, through the holiday and in particular to take a test before returning to The Leigh on Monday 8th November. Any positive results should be reported to info@leighacademy.org.uk
A reminder also, that there are revision sessions in the week of 1st November for Year 11, please check the Year 11 Google Classroom for details as well as some public examinations and resits for Post 16 students, again details in the Post 16 Google Classroom.
Over the two- week break, I will review our Covid cases, the number of cases locally, seek advice and follow any updated guidance. I will then write to you again in the week of 1st November with an update regarding our Covid safety measures as we return to Module 2. Thank you for your ongoing support.
I wish you all a restful and safe half-term break.
Yours sincerely
Julia Collins
