Mid-Module 3 Update

Dear Parents/Carers,

As you will be aware there have been recent changes in the guidance as the nation moves out of ‘Plan B’ measures. At The Leigh Academy, we are continuing with our existing measures. It is important to keep measures in place to reduce the transmission of COVID within our community and as such we are asking all students, staff and visitors to continue to wear face coverings/masks when moving around the building and when in indoor communal areas such as the restaurant and the Lecture Theatre. This will allow us to reinstate year group assemblies, yet give us the confidence that we are acting cautiously. We are lucky that we have been able to minimise disruption to students’ learning and have been able to begin to widen the experiences and opportunities students can receive with visitors, presentations, sporting competitions and trips.

Our priority continues to be to keep everyone safe as well as the continuity of education and academy life in general. I am grateful for everyone’s support with this.

A reminder that the School Immunisation Team will be on site on 1st February for students in Year 7 to 11 to receive their first or second vaccination

I am also pleased to share with you that this Module, we have launched a College Figurehead project. At The Leigh Academy, we value our College Model with its benefits of the small school approach, College identity and College pastoral and leadership teams supporting the needs of our young people. However, following consultation with governors and staff, we have agreed that our current College Figureheads – Brunel, Chaucer, Darwin and da Vinci whilst having served us well for the last decade, are not representative, nor as relevant to our community as they once were. Students and staff  have been asked to research and present back on their ideas of inspirational role models who can take on the lead of their Colleges. Do speak to your children about their ideas and research and I look forward to hearing students’ presentations with their candidates and then, in due course sharing with you all the chosen names for the College figureheads.

Finally, at the end of the month we say goodbye to Mr Stuart Lindars. Mr Lindars is currently Head of Darwin College and has been a member of our Leigh community for nearly 20 years. We thank him for his service to The Leigh and to generations of our students and wish him well on his next venture. I will share with you further staffing updates at  the end of the module.

Thank you for your continued support.

Your Sincerely,

Julia Collins
