Year 12 Internal Examinations

A group of Leigh Academy students are photographed sitting together at their desks, looking at their laptops and smiling.

Dear Parents/Carers,

In my last letter to you, I explained that Year 12 students would be taking internal end of year examinations in Module 6 in subjects in which they have not already taken real public examinations this year. I am now writing to share the timetable for these internal examinations.

Students will take these examinations during their usual timetabled lessons, supervised by their usual teachers and, in almost all cases, in their usual classrooms.

While the May half term holiday should still be a time for students to spend time with their families and friends and recover from another busy term in school, I would encourage students to also take some time to prepare thoroughly for their internal examinations to ensure that they are able to perform to the best of their abilities. These examinations are designed to provide a benchmark for the progress that students have made in the first year of their Post-16 studies, so that both staff and students can assess what needs to be done in the crucial second year. Staff will use results in these examinations to help them to predict likely performance in next year’s public examinations, so that they can accurately provide predicted grades to be used on university, apprenticeship and employment applications. Examinations in Year 12 are also a trial run for the formal mock examinations that current Year 12 students will take in November/December of Year 13.

Staff will already be talking to students about how and what to prepare for examinations in their subjects but students can also access more generalised support on the academy’s website here.

If you have any questions about examinations, please contact your son or daughter’s subject teachers in the first instance.

Yours faithfully,

Mr Lee Forcella-Burton
Director of Post-16, Leading Attenborough College
