Dear Parents/Carers,
As we approach the end of this academic year I write with a summary of the upcoming events.
This week we have the final ‘sports day’ events for those selected. These take place at Dartford running track and your child will have received a separate letter if they are involved.
On Tuesday 12th July, we have a range of activity days and rewards trips from onsite activities to Cinema, Thorpe Park, Southend and Mote Park to name a few. Please reread the letter about the activity/trip your child is involved in, and make sure additional water and suntan lotion is taken.
The rest of this week is lessons as usual, with Year 12 lessons finishing on Friday 15th July, unless students have been asked to return the following week to complete specific work.
As you know, from September, we will be evolving our College figureheads to reflect our ever changing global community. As a part of this transition we are planning College Figurehead Activities Days to celebrate this exciting future for the academy which will take place on Monday 18th July and Tuesday 19th July. We are looking forward to hosting a number of exciting activities for our students to reward and enrich them after a great year of academic achievement.
Over the 2 days students will experience a variety of different activities, some outlined below:
- International mindedness sessions to immerse students in different cultures linked to subject areas.
- Inflatable Adventure field activities
- Team building field activities and intercollege competitions
- College Figurehead experiences
Students in each of the newly named colleges – Mandela, Curie, Seacole, Shakespeare will receive a separate letter with the details of their activities and requirements for their 2 days.
Wednesday 20th July and Thursday 21st July will be usual timetabled lessons, in academy uniform for Years 7 – 9. Students will be dismissed for the summer break at 12:30 pm on Thursday 21st July. The majority of Year 10 students will be on work experience.
We will then welcome back new year 7 students on Thursday 1st September at 8:30am. Year 8, 9, 10, 11 and 13 students return on Friday 2nd September at 8:30 am. New year 12 students will start on Monday 12th September.
I wish you all a restful and safe summer break and look forward to seeing our students back with us for the year ahead.
Your Sincerely,
Julia Collins
Principal
