Year 11 Leavers Letter

Dear Parent/Carer

Re: Year 11 Examination and Masterclass Timetable

Following the completion of over 75% of their Summer Examinations, your child will now move onto an Examination and Masterclass timetable.

From Tuesday 13th June, students are only required to attend the academy for examinations and masterclasses, as per their updated Year 11 Examination Timetable which will be shared separately for your reference.

At the end of an examination or masterclass, students will be dismissed from the academy site to continue independent study at home as per their individual timetable. Students who have Fine Art, Photography, BTEC Health and Social Care or NCFE PE will remain at the academy to continue their timetabled lessons for these subjects as per the course requirements.

Students must attend the academy in full uniform, as well as bring all learning materials and their fully charged Chromebook to masterclass sessions.

The final whole cohort Year 11 examination (Physics) will take place at 8:30am on Friday 16th June. At the end of the examination, students will return their Chromebooks and chargers as per their signed parental loan agreement, unless they need to keep it for the remaining examinations in Design Technology or Food, Nutrition and Preparation.

Chromebook returns

Your child has received a Chromebook in their time at The Leigh Academy through one of two different ways:

  1. Purchased through the Freedom Tech programme
  2. Loaned by The Leigh Academy

If you purchased a Chromebook through the Freedom Tech programme when your child started attending The Leigh Academy, and the device has been fully paid for, you can request to have it unlocked. This will grant your child complete access to the device and all of its features.

To make this request, please send an email to chromebookscheme@sirgeoffreyleighacademy.org.uk with the device’s serial number, which can be found on the bottom of the device labelled “SN”, and confirmation from Freedom Tech that the device has been paid in full.

If you do not have this confirmation, please go to www.freedomtech.co.uk/help and select “Other” as the request type. In your message, explain that you need confirmation that the device has been fully paid for and include the device’s serial number

If your child has a Chromebook that was loaned to them by The Leigh Academy then that must be returned, with the charger, before they complete their final examinations. These devices can be returned between 8.00am – 8.30am or directly after the Physics exam on Friday 16th June to Mr Mills in CU 1.08 . Students who have Design Technology or Food, Nutrition and Preparation can return their Chromebooks on the morning of the exam to Mr Mills, again in CU 1.08.

Please note that if a student fails to return their loan Chromebook then they won’t be allowed into the Leavers Assembly on Thursday 23rd June.

Year 11 Leavers Assembly

We are all looking forward to welcoming Year 11 back to the academy on Friday 23rd June for their Year 11 Leavers’ Assembly. We have taken the decision to have one assembly for the whole year group (rather than in Colleges) so we can celebrate as a wider community the successes and memories of the past 5 years. Students need to maintain our high standards of behaviour in order to be able to attend.

The schedule for Friday 23rd June will be as follows:

8.00 – 8.30am: Arrive at the academy and make their way to the basketball courts next to the sports hall. Students will remain there until a member of college SLT escorts them up to their college at 8.30am. This is an opportunity to mix with Year 11 students from all Colleges to sign shirts/books etc.

8.30 – 8.50am: Signing shirts (spare ones, not the one they are wearing) and light refreshments. Students will remain in their college rooms until the assembly begins at 8.50am

8.50am: Students put their college graduation gowns on and make their way to the Lecture Theatre

9.00 – 9.40am: Leavers assembly in the Lecture Theatre

9.40am: Photos in the quad and final goodbyes

9.50am: Graduation gowns returned to the Lecture Theatre and students make their way off site before period 2/break starts at 10.00am

Please note the following important points for the day:

  • Students should all arrive in academy uniform
  • Students to bring in spare shirts for signing rather than sign the clothes they are wearing – it looks tidier and they get a clean, unworn shirt to keep
  • Photos will be allowed on mobile phones on the basketball court, quad and in college rooms only
  • Behaviour expectations still need to be respected and students will leave site immediately if they are not upheld
  • If a student hasn’t returned their Chromebook which has been loaned to them by the academy then they won’t be allowed in for the assembly

Thank you for your continued support with your child’s summer examinations and attendance to masterclass sessions. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s college leadership team.

Yours sincerely,
Julia Collins
Principal
