GCSE Results Day 2022 – 25th August 2022

The Leigh Academy welcomed students today to receive an impressive array of GCSE and Level 2 BTEC results. We are delighted that our Year 11 students have achieved so highly and are testament to the years of hard work and commitment to their studies, despite the challenging times faced in recent years.

Principal, Mrs Julia Collins stated, “These results highlight the resilience and perseverance of our young people who have overcome the significant demands over the course of their studies and shown true Leigh spirit.  I am so proud of all of our students and wish them well as they move confidently into their future.

83% of Leigh students achieved a 4 or above in English, with 72% achieving a grade 5 or above. 66% of Leigh students achieved a 4 or above in Mathematics, with 41% achieving a grade 5 or above. Students have achieved highly across all subjects, increasing on all measures since 2019, when the last set of public examinations were taken. 

Languages continue to be very successful at The Leigh with 64% of students studying French achieving a  grade 4 or above, and 87% of students studying Spanish achieving a grade 4 or above. We have our highest number of Grade 9s ever achieved with 26 Grade 9s, across a range of subjects including – Combined Science, Computer Science, English Literature, Ethics, Food Preparation and Nutrition, French, Further Mathematics, GCSE PE, Geography, History, Mathematics, Polish and Spanish.

We are incredibly proud of our GCSE PE students with 100% achieving a grade 4 or above along with 28% of students achieving a grade 8 or 9. Another highlight is Art & Design with 89% of students achieving a grade 4 or above.

Along with our GCSE results we have also received some great BTEC results with 71% of students achieving a Level 2 Merit or higher in Performing Arts Acting. BTEC Engineering have also performed well with 85% of students achieving a Level 2 Pass or higher.

Deserve to recognised

Many students are returning to us for sixth-form studies, while others are already undertaking apprenticeships or will be moving on to college places in September. Thank you to the amazing team of staff and supportive parents who have encouraged students to achieve success and move onto their next stage of education or training.
