Dear Parents/Carers,

The Careers Programme at The Leigh Academy is an integral part of the learning journey for all students. We aim to raise aspirations, challenge stereotypes and consider a broad and ambitious range of career options. We give our students the breadth of knowledge to make informed decisions about their future destination and career path. We do this by implementing and following the Gatsby Benchmarks.

In keeping with our commitment to provide students with outstanding careers guidance and tailored support, we use Unifrog which is an award-winning, online careers platform. Students in all years have access to this excellent resource. Please take time to access and explore Unifrog with your child at www.unifrog.org.

Careers education, information, advice and guidance (CEIAG) will be delivered to all students through a variety of methods. You can view the 2022/2023 Careers Programmes for Years 7-13 below:

National Careers Week (6th – 11th March 2023)

Students will be celebrating National Careers Week again this year with a tutor time programme jam packed with resources, activities and a virtual careers fair to help support them and develop awareness about their future pathways. The parents’ guide to National Careers Week can be found here.

Parent/Carer Interaction

The Careers team here at The Leigh Academy are always looking for ways to improve and add to our careers’ provision. We would value your feedback and invite you to complete our short survey here. In addition to this we would welcome offers of work experience placements to Year 10 and 12 students in July. Please email Mr Williams and Mrs Mace-Baker if you can assist with placements.

The Gatsby Benchmarks

The Gatsby Foundation created 8 benchmarks designed to guide schools nationwide in educating and equipping students in Years 7 – 13. This supports successful transition from formal education into the world of work. We use this framework to create and plan our careers programme annually.

Benchmark 1

A stable careers programme

Benchmark 2

Learning from career and labour market information

Benchmark 3

Addressing the needs of each pupil

Benchmark 4

Linking curriculum learning to careers

Benchmark 5

Encounters with employers and employees

Benchmark 6

Experiences of workplaces

Benchmark 7

Encounters with further and higher education

Benchmark 8

Personal Guidance

Further information on our Careers Programme can be found on The Leigh Academy website – Careers.

If you would like to discuss the programme or have any questions, please contact the careers team via the email addresses below.
