Dear Parents/Carers

Re: Christmas Jumper/Non-Uniform Day and Christmas Brunch – Tuesday 12th December 2023 – Year 12 and 13

This year The Leigh Academy will be continuing our tradition of supporting charities at Christmas, by holding a Post-16 ‘Christmas Jumper Day’. This will coincide with a Christmas brunch  from our caterers Cucina, from 11am- 11.30am on Tuesday 12th December. Students are encouraged to wear non-uniform for the day along with their very best festive jumper or Christmas accessories.

This year, the proceeds of the Christmas Jumper Day will go to two charities, Save the Children and Bantabami.

Save the Children was established in the United Kingdom in 1919 to improve the lives of children through better education, health care, and economic opportunities. In recent years, Save the Children has provided invaluable support to many families, helping them to access food vouchers, as well as providing emotional support.

The Bantabami charity supports an AIDS orphanage in South Africa that the academy has been supporting for many years. One eighth of the population of South Africa is either HIV+ or has AIDS and hundreds of thousands of orphans have been created because of this terrible disease. Bantabami is a tiny charity that supports the AIDS orphans of Pietermaritzburg, near Durban, providing food, clothing and other practical support to the orphans, as well as the grannies who look after them. Without our support, the charity would cease operating, so we thank you for the donations you make on Christmas Jumper Day this year, which will enable Bantabami to continue its work in 2024.

It is important that students have all their books and equipment for the day and that they wear appropriate non-academy uniform clothing in addition to any Christmas jumper/accessories.

We ask the students and staff to contribute a minimum of £1.00 for the privilege of wearing their own clothes with their Christmas jumper for the day.

This module will end on Friday 15th December at 12:30pm for students, or as per their usual timetable.

We thank you in advance for your continued support for our charity fund-raising activities and we hope that all of our community joins in with our festivities.

Yours faithfully
