Year 8 Welcome Back & Module 3 Update

A young male Year 7 student is seen sat at a desk, smiling and surrounded by his peers in a dining area.

Dear Parents/Carers,

Wishing you all a very happy new year and welcome back to Module 3.

Curriculum

A reminder that students study a range of subjects in Year 8 including English, Maths, Science, History, Geography, French or Spanish, Religious Studies/Ethics, Art, Drama, Design and Technology, Computing, Music, PE as well as Healthy Minds lessons. These subjects are delivered through the IB MYP – International Baccalaureate Middle Years programme, which aims to prepare students to be successful in school and become active lifelong learners, encouraging students to make practical connections between their studies and the work around them. The IB MYP also embeds the qualities we want our young people to develop as promoted through the IB learner profiles of being:

Inquirers
Communicators
Caring
Reflective

Knowledgeable
Principled
Risk-takers

Thinkers
Open-minded
Balanced

Assessment

Through this module students will be having their interim (mid year) IB MYP assessments in class and will be tested on the knowledge and skills they have been learning and developing through the year. Further information about assessment criteria for each subject can be found here. If you have any queries regarding the IB MYP curriculum please contact Sarah McCabe-Knowles sarah.mccabe-knowles@leighacademy.org.uk or your child’s college team.

You will next be updated on your child’s progress in their Interim (mid year) reports which will be published to you at the end of March. The final end of year written report will then be published in July.
